Pink Paisley Nursing Cover

My sewing machine has been acting up recently. Something was wrong with the tension, and I have been intending to take it in for a "tune up." However, after loosening and tightening all the screws I could find, I fixed it myself. So, I was able to finish this for a friend who was looking for a baby gift. I bought some extra fabric this time so I could make a matching burp cloth. You'll also see, I added a piece of terry cloth for small clean ups while nursing. Pink is not my favorite color, but I liked this fabric when I saw it.

New Fabric

This fabric will soon be nursing covers and burp cloths. Only one is claimed so far...

I learned today that I like the fabric at Hobby Lobby better than what I've found at JoAnn's. The latter has more to choose from but it's harder to find "funky" fabric there. Hobby Lobby's fabric is also less expensive (and one sale today) so that's a plus for me.

2nd Nursing Cover

I made a second nursing cover the other day. It was much easier the second time around. I need to get some more fabric (which isn't cheap) so I can keep sewing. This one was intended to be for a friend with a new baby but she is no longer nursing so it's just hanging out at my house.

More Creativity (Nursing Cover)

Last month, I decided it was about time I start being creative again. I made a few headbands for Sylvia. I've been wanting to do some sewing but my machine has been in a box in the garage since we were displaced.

The birth of my friend's daughter motivated me to get going. I took Sylvia to the fabric store yesterday (she was awarded the best baby in the store award by the grandma in line behind us) and picked out some fabric for a nursing cover as well as some D rings and plastic boning. Today, I took a look at my "Hooter Hider" and was able to put this together. It actually turned out very well and only took me a couple of hours...with a 9 month old crawling around investigating my thread and the power cord for the sewing machine.

Being Creative

Since I learned that $40 would buy you a yard of fabric called a "Hooter Hider" I have been interested in making my own baby products. A list of ideas has been compiled but I've been to preoccupied to get started. Plus, there's hardly ever any funky fabric in the $1 bins. With Sylvia in bed and a creative bug in me late the other night, I headed to Walmart determined to pick up the supplies needed for some type of craft project. After finding elastic, buttons, and silk flowers this is what I came up with. I will admit that I saw the idea on another blog, but I took it my own direction and really enjoyed the chance to be creative. I've got 5 made now but I'm out of elastic. I'll probably head to a craft store this time around because I wasted approximately 30 minutes in the check-out lane at Walmart.
